Medtronic and DePuy have been identified as two device makers that paid a spine surgeon at the University of California, Los Angeles half a million dollars for his research efforts. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, identified the companies as part of a trend by industry and universities to hide financial interests. In the cases he cited, Grassley said the research, speaking and consulting fees were not reported to UCLA as required. (Click here for more – a subscription may be required)
