Boston Scientific is about to change its leadership, as CEO and President Jim Tobin announced his retirement in July. Ray Elliott, former CEO and president of Zimmer Holdings, is to replace Tobin. At an announcement of the switch, Elliott said he intended to diversify the company’s products and concentrate on deals outside the medical-device part of the business, if that is necessary. Tobin has headed Boston Scientific for the past decade. Elliott said the company is rich in products other than its noted heart devices and he intends to use them to expand Boston Scientific’s capabilities beyond just heart devices, with a particular focus on urology and women’s health problems.
