Allergan has won FDA approval of its Ozurdex eye implant for treating retinal disease. The product is a biodegradable polymer placed on the rear of the eye to release the dexamethasone anti-inflammatory to treat swelling caused by problems with retinal veins. Ozurdex had been owned by Oculex Pharmaceuticals until Allergan bought it in 2003 for $230 million. Allergan expects to put Ozurdex on the market in the third quarter of this year.
