St. Jude Medical was a pawn in a tug of war between Malaysia and Singapore in their efforts to attract new companies along with their investments, with Malaysia the winner. St. Jude plans to build a 300,000-square-foot plant to make pacemakers and other heart products once the factory is completed in 2011. Malaysia and Singapore fought over the St. Jude presence because it plans to add more than 1,000 jobs in the country, including 300 high-income positions.
