Medtronic, Zimmer Holdings, Boston Scientific and other device markers are using the jobs argument in a final appeal to Congress to go easy on the industry in health-care reform. Medtronic CEO William Hawkins said members of Congress relate to job losses, while Zimmer CEO Stephen MacMillan says his firm has delayed some hirings as it awaits the final outcome of proposed legislation. Similarly, Boston Scientific CEO Ray Elliott has said his company could lose as many as 2,000 jobs if current congressional plans for industry taxes become law.
