Zimmer Holdings,DePuy and Biomet, all located in Warsaw, Ind., are moving into the activity of regenerating tissue and bones in a major way, making it a growth area of their industry. The new field is orthobiologic devices using animal tissues to activate the body’s own systems to fix its own bones and joints. Zimmer makes the DeNovo NT and ET technologies to repair damaged cartilage to prevent the onset of arthritis, while DePuy’s Restore Orthobiologic Implant repairs soft tissue in the shoulder’s rotator cuff and Biomet makes products to help surgeons repair bone breaks.
