AngioDynamics Develops Device To Kill Cancer Cells

AngioDynamics has developed a system to destroy cells that make up tumors and has received praises from physicians who tried it. The firm has spent $40 million getting its NanoKnife device to market, a key to its growth plans. AngioDynamics relies on NanoKnife to lead growth in a way its catheters and other products did in previous years. AngioDynamics Taps Former CryoCath Chief Keltjens For CEO Slot

Incoming AngioDynamics CEO Jan Keltjens will draw on his 20-plus years of device industry leadership experience, including as former chief exec of CryoCath Technologies, to shepherd "the next level" of growth at the company.

On Jan. 21, the maker of minimally invasive oncology and peripheral vascular disease devices announced Keltjens will take the reins on March 1. He will succeed co-founder Eamonn Hobbs, who was CEO for 21 years. Hobbs plans to remain with the Queensbury, N.Y., company as vice chairman.

Hobbs announced he would step down late last year (1"The Gray Sheet" Dec. 15, 2008, p. 12). At the time, he said the company needed a "world class" chief executive who would help a reorganized AngioDynamics focus more on operational activities. The firm transitioned last summer into three distinct business units: Peripheral Vascular, Access and Oncology/Surgery.
