Boston Scientific Places Taxus Element Stent On European Market

Boston Scientific has begun marketing its Taxus Element drug-eluting stent in Europe. The European Union approved the stent in May for use in diabetes patients. Boston Scientific has a partnership agreement with Angiotech Pharmaceuticals to develop the stent in the United States, where they expect an FDA decision by the middle of next year, a few months later in Japan. B. Braun To Market Angiotech Suture System In U.S., Three Other Nations

B. Braun has signed a deal with Angiotech Pharmaceuticals of Canada to market the firm’s Quill knotless suture system in the United States. The deal is an exclusive one for B. Braun, which also is to market the device in France, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Neither party revealed the financial terms of the agreement, which is to cover the next five years. Boston Sci, Angiotech Stent Meets Goals In Two Comparison Trials

Boston Scientific’s Taxus Element, which it developed with Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, passed clinical trials testing it against the older Taxus Express stent to treat blood-vessel lesions. Angiotech is testing the drug-coated Taxus Element against a drug-coated version of the Taxus Express and separately against a bare-metal version of the Express. Angiotech Launches Artery-Filtering Device To Prevent Lung Blockage

Angiotech Pharmaceuticals says it is marketing a filtering device to prevent a repeat of pulmonary embolisms. The firm said its Option Inferior Vena Cava Filter is to be launched on a broad scale, beyond a limited rollout in July. Angiotech estimates the market for such filters to be worth about $300 million by 2012. The FDA gave its approval in June.(Click here for more)

Angiotech Wins Brazil Approval For Quill Suture Products

Angiotech Pharmaceuticals suture product has been approved by Brazilian regulators. The approval covers several versions of Angiotech's Quill suture line, including Quill SRS PDO, Monoderm, Polypropylene and Nylon sutures received approval. The Quill SRS and Monoderm are absorbable, Polypropylene and Nylon are not. All have been cleared for marketing in Canada, Europe and the United States. (Click here for more)
