EnteroMedics and Leptos Biomedical are working separately on neuromodulation devices to help control the perceived need to eat that leads to obesity. EnteroMedics already is attracting investors for its VBLOC device that blocks with electricity messages from the brain to the stomach to eat. The company has trials under way with a goal to get FDA approval by the end of 2009. Leptos is attempting to achieve the same end by different means, by stimulating the nerve connected with stored energy. Leptos also has backing for its device. (Click here for more)
