Gen-Probe, a leading maker of genetic tests, expects to see nearly $500 million in revenues this year, one in which it acquired two significant companies. Gen-Probe CEO Carl Hull, who took the position in May, says the firm expects to operate as it has done traditionally, despite the expansion. He steered the purchase of Prodesse to give Gen-Probe a line of tests for infectious diseases such as influenza, just after the firm bought Tepnel, a specialist in prenatal diagnosis and transplant tissue-typing.
