Haemonetics Corp., which makes devices to collect blood and plasma, has won a court battle against Fenwal Inc., until recently owned by Baxter International, over competing equipment. Haemonetics sued Fenwal for $35 million over its ALYX system that Haemonetics said infringes on its own technology for a portable collection device. Baxter lawyers had said its researchers invented the ALYX system before Haemonetics, but a federal jury in Boston ruled in favor of Haemonetics, which said it had licensed the patent directly from the inventor. The suit was brought against Baxter Healthcare, which in 2007 sold its ALYX marketing unit to Texas investors, who in turn created Fenwal. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=268808
