Siemens Said To Have Six Bidders For $3 Billion Hearing-Aid Unit

Siemens is said to have six potential buyers participating in an auction for its hearing-aid unit, considered worth more than $2.89 billion. The details have not been made public, but people close to the issue say one strategic buyer and five private-equity firms are considered potential buyers. The Siemens division competes with Sonova Holding of Switzerland and William Demant Holding of Denmark in the hearing-aid field. (Click here for more)

Sonova Agrees To $489 Million Takeover Of Advanced Bionics

Sonova Holding and Advanced Bionics reached a $489 million takeover agreement, with Sonova buying Advanced for its line of surgical cochlear implants. Sonova plans to have Advanced Bionics operate as an independent unit with the expectation it will double its sales within the next five years.
